Geothermal energy -

Almost a year ago, a “seismic event” shook the Strasbourg metropolitan area.

As a precautionary principle, water injection operations were immediately stopped on the deep geothermal drilling site at Vendenheim-Reichstett, on the outskirts of Strasbourg, in order to analyze the circumstances of this earthquake which had surprised the inhabitants.

But since then, great silence on the result of these analyzes until the prefecture, by a press release Thursday.

The latter has indicated that it wants additional field investigations to be carried out by Fonroche Géothermie on its site in Vendenheim from October 1.

They "will make it possible to define the conditions for a secure start-up of the Vendenheim geothermal power plant", indicates the prefecture.

If all the tests carried out prove to be favorable and show that the risks are under control, industrial operation of the geothermal power plant could be considered at the end of the first half of 2021.
