China News Service, September 17 According to the "China Greek Times" report, on the evening of September 16, local time, the Greek National Public Health Organization announced that there were 2,322 new cases of new coronavirus pneumonia in Greece in the past 24 hours, and a total of 625,083 cases have been confirmed.

There were 42 new deaths and a total of 14,354 deaths.

In an interview with the media, Mossinis Salianis, professor of environmental engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, said that the number of new coronary pneumonia cases in Greece is expected to increase significantly by the end of this month.

He pointed out that according to the prediction of the mathematical model, the epidemic situation in Greece may deteriorate from the 18th to the 20th of this month. By then, the daily number of confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia may exceed 4000 to 4500.

But the good news is that it is unlikely that deaths will continue to increase.

He emphasized that most of the deaths are people who have not been vaccinated against the new crown virus, and this situation is still continuing. By October 21, the number of deaths due to the new crown virus in Greece is estimated to be 30-40 people every day.

Although the holiday season in Greece has ended and the government has imposed strict restrictions on those who have not been vaccinated, the country’s vaccination rate has not increased significantly.

According to official statistics, the current inoculation rate of the first dose of vaccine is about 20,000 doses per day, and the first dose of vaccine injected every week is about 120,000 doses.

At this rate, it will take about 7 to 8 weeks to complete the additional 1 million doses of vaccination, and this amount of vaccination can reach the number required for Greece to build an immune wall.

More importantly, as the school opens, health experts worry that the movement and gathering of people will lead to a surge in cases.

Especially after the autumn and winter seasons come, people stay indoors for a long time. If the ventilation cannot be maintained, it will help the spread of the virus.

For this reason, the government’s top priority is to race against time to increase the vaccination rate, and to vaccinate another 1 million people before the arrival of November at the latest.

In addition to being regarded as the young people at the highest risk of infection at this stage, the health of the 60-64 age group is also more worrying, and the vaccination rate is only 67%.

In addition, the vaccination rate for the 70 to 74-year-old age group is only 69%.

However, these two age groups are at high risk of developing severe illness after infection.

Therefore, how to increase the vaccination rate of the elderly is also a problem that the government needs to solve urgently.
