YouTube announced on Tuesday that YouTube Music will permanently replace Google Play Music by December 2020. The news is not a surprise, since last May Google began to encourage its users to transfer content from their accounts to the YouTube service. .

A dedicated feature allowed subscribers to keep their preferences and song library while switching portal. Google has therefore moved up a gear, reports Presse-Citron .

YouTube Music, a "great experience"

In a blog post, YouTube warns that data transfer to YouTube Music will no longer be possible after December. Music streaming through Google Play Music will stop working as of October. The service will be shut down even in September for South African and New Zealand customers.

The purchase or pre-order of songs will be disabled at the end of August. "We look forward to seeing you explore the possibilities offered by YouTube Music and discover your new favorite tracks," says the platform on its blog. YouTube Music is described there as "a great fan experience" that will bring together "the best of Google Play Music and the best of YouTube".
