Google Maps has long been a must-have app when going on a trip or finding yourself in an unfamiliar city.

But it risks becoming more so.

On Thursday, September 22, Google detailed new features for its GPS tool,

Phonandroid

reports .

And three of them are already highly anticipated.

The first responds to the name of Immersive View.

This feature will allow the user to go virtually anywhere.

He will be able to navigate quietly in search of information on a point of interest whether it is a restaurant, a museum or a park.

It will also be possible to consult the traffic in a given area or the crowds in an establishment, to check the parking spaces available or the weather forecast on a given date.

If you're visiting a new place, it can be hard to figure out what's worth exploring.

Soon on @GoogleMaps, you'll be able to get the vibe of a neighborhood at a glance with photos and videos of the most popular spots coming to life on your map.

Only a few cities concerned

To offer this service, which is based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Google has combined billions of images at its disposal.

Available on Android and iOS in the coming months, the Immersive View feature will only be available for use in the cities of Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo.

For the time being, no deployment date has been announced for France.

Another feature that will make its appearance: Neighborhgood Vibe (Neighborhood atmosphere).

Thanks to this, users can easily find what to do if they find themselves alone in an unfamiliar area.

“To determine the vibe of a neighborhood, we combine AI with the local knowledge of Google Maps users, who add more than 20 million contributions to the map every day, including reviews, photos and videos” , explains the American company.

Greener journeys

Google has also announced that it wants to improve the technology of its Live View feature, introduced in 2019. It will now be possible to search for supermarkets, distributors or even car parks directly in Search in Live View in order to quickly obtain an augmented reality overview.

If you're looking for an ATM, for example, "just raise your camera, tap the icon in the Google Maps search bar, and you'll see directly, overlaid on the real world, the ATM that's there. nearby,” Chris Phillips, head of Google GEO, told Zdnet.

Finally, the American firm will also offer developers to put more emphasis on ecological routes in their own applications.

These routes, which are not necessarily the shortest, are the ones that emit the least CO2.

VTC drivers and delivery people will thus be able to use routes that are more respectful of the environment.
