The French have been loyal to their posts.

TF1 consolidated its position as the leading channel in August, while the other large channels saw their audience shares decline, according to data from Médiamétrie published on Monday.

In August, each French person watched television on average for 3:21 hours (as in July), or 12 minutes more than a year earlier, according to figures from the audience measurement institute.

This shows that the channels, which saw their audiences soar during confinement, continued to benefit from a resurgence of interest even if this effect linked to Covid-19 begins to fade.

A full box with the Champions League

By channel, TF1 has regained 0.4 point compared to a year earlier to 19.4%, with an August which ended with a full card with the final of the Champions League PSG / Bayern ( 11 million viewers on August 23), and which was marked by very good scores for the news and for entertainment like

Koh-Lanta

.

The other large chains are down slightly: France 2, which did not benefit from the Tokyo Olympics (postponed to 2021 due to Covid-19) and suffered from the lag of the Tour de France (despite a good audience for the start this weekend), lost 0.2 point to 13.7%.

France 3 lost 0.3 point to 9.8%, and M6 lost 0.5 point to 8.2%.

Among other notable declines, France 4, which has just launched its final season (its broadcast must cease next summer), lost 0.4 point to 1.3%.

Records for L'Equipe

Conversely, some channels have signed records: L'Equipe reached 1.8% pda for the first time over a month (+0.4 points), boosted by the Champions League evenings, while BFMTV posted its best month of August with 2.6% of pda (+0.6 point, the best increase this month), during a month when the news remained dense.

The other 24-hour news channels also gained ground: CNews took half a point (to 1.1%), while LCI and franceinfo gained 0.1 point each (to 1% and 0.6% respectively).

By group, France Télévisions (-0.9 to 28.6%) remains ahead of TF1 (+0.5 to 26.7%) but with a narrowing gap.
