Rostock (dpa / mv) - Economics Minister Harry Glawe (CDU) has announced a positive result by the end of May in the struggle for the future of MV Werften.

He then wanted to present a solution with the consent of the shipyard owner Genting.

He also believed in the approval of the federal government.

"And it won't fail on land," said Glawe on Monday at the National Maritime Conference in Rostock.

"We have made splendid progress."

He is assuming that the cruise ship “Global 1” will continue to be built and the “Endeavor” will be delivered at the beginning of June, according to Glawe.

Further negotiations, for example about “Global 2”, would have to follow.

However, like Federal Economics Minister Peter Altmaier (CDU), he asked for patience with the disclosure of details.

According to Altmaier, since the beginning of the acute phase of the corona pandemic, there has been very close cooperation between his and the Federal Ministry of Finance, including the Schwerin State Chancellery.

In the past year, funds were mobilized in a considerable amount.

"We now have to take care of solutions that convey sustainability."

"The decision on the future of MV Werften is long overdue," emphasized Henning Foerster from the left-wing parliamentary group in the Schwerin state parliament.

At the conference, the federal government had proven that shipbuilding is still wanted in Germany and has a future.

But warm words would not help the thousands of employees at the shipyards.

Jochen Schulte from the SPD parliamentary group also called for a federal decision.

"It's not about squandering tax money on a Chinese investor, but about the future of thousands of jobs."

For this, the federal government would have to briefly advocate financial support for MV Werften so as not to frivolously gamble away its future viability after the pandemic.
