As the police announced, there were riots, property damage and physical assaults in the course of the evening.
"Our officers came into the focus of the crowd and were pelted with rockets and flares," said Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland, according to the statement.
He condemned the "shameful" behavior of the fans and announced further consequences for those involved.
Anyone who was involved in the "ugly scenes" will be identified and arrested, says Sutherland.
End of a long dry spell
For the Glasgow Rangers, the 55th championship title means the end of a long dry spell.
The traditional club last won the title in 2011.
After his bankruptcy, the record champions were excluded from the Scottish Premiership in 2012 and had to start again in the 4th division.
Since then, arch-rivals Celtic Glasgow had won the Scottish Championship nine times in a row and had come dangerously close to the Rangers with a total of 51 titles.
But now the Rangers ended the season unbeaten after 38 matchdays with a proud 102 points and, above all, 25 points ahead of their unloved neighbors.
The Rangers have never had a bigger lead over Celtic.
