Germany: Munich Protesters Protest Containment Measures

Restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic are easing in Germany. Bavaria took a new step this Saturday, May 30, by allowing hoteliers to welcome tourists. However, Germans continue to take to the streets every Saturday to protest against the measures they still consider too strict. Rallies have also taken place in several cities across the country. In Munich, around a thousand people demonstrated.

The demonstrators stand at a distance from each other, in a delimited space in the middle of Theresienwiese, a huge square of 42 hectares.

"  I think it's not a coronavirus crisis, but a coronavirus plan. I wonder how it was possible that the countries of the whole world were brought to make this confinement on a large scale. I have the feeling that things are being hidden from us  , ”explains Giesele, a retired woman who came to demonstrate in the square with her husband.

Adepts of conspiracy theories, anti-vaccines or people affected economically by containment measures, the demonstrators form a motley assembly. They meet to denounce the wearing of the mask. “  Masks are useless. Many studies confirm this,  ”says a young woman from Munich.

No more than 1,000 protesters allowed

The police screen the entrances, no more than 1,000 demonstrators authorized on the site. A few dozen others assist from afar. "  What brings us together is that we want to keep our freedom, we don't want to get used to wearing the mask and seeing cinemas and theaters closed," explains Birgit Leib, who works in culture. I don't want to be kept in this state there, and that I think is something that I share with many of the demonstrators here  . ”

The protesters are determined to continue their movement until all restrictions related to the coronavirus are lifted.
