The Löwen Frankfurt have found their new head coach for the coming season.
Gerry Fleming will coach the club in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
"Gerry is excited to return to the DEL and to the task of successfully coaching our team together with our coaching team," said Frankfurt's sporting director Franz-David Fritzmeier after the announcement of the commitment.
"He fits in very well with our team, not only has a lot of experience in North America, but also knows the DEL through his time with the Eisbären Berlin - which is of course an important factor." The 54-year-old Fleming was from 2018 to 2021 Assistant coach at the Eisbären Berlin.
The Lions have been looking for a new head coach since the end of last season.
Despite the championship, the club parted with Bohuslav Subr.
The views on how the club should appear playfully in the DEL were too different.
Sports director Fritzmeier therefore first put the new team together in order to then find a new coach who would suit this team best.
With his vast experience, Fleming should now continue to develop the club in the coming season.
Last season he coached the Iowa Heartlanders, the farm team of the NHL club Minnesota Wild.
"Of course it's an exciting challenge to keep working on getting better and better and building a team that will play a good role in the DEL in the years to come.
I like challenges like this, so I'm very grateful for the opportunity to become part of the Löwen Frankfurt team and organization,” said Fleming.
The coaching staff is now complete.
In addition to the head coach, Jan Barta will be on the gang as an assistant coach.
Goalkeeper and video coach Josh Robinson has also been signed for the coming season.
