We demand financial and legal protection for European companies from extraterritorial sanctions from third countries, ”RIA Novosti quotes a statement from the Eastern Committee of the German Economy.
The statement also says that "the time has come to think about targeted countermeasures."
Earlier, the Handelsblatt newspaper reported that US senators had sent a letter to the operator of the German port of Sassnitz calling for an end to work to support the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
The letter is signed by Senators Ted Cruise, Tom Cotton and Ron Johnson.
German MP, representative of the faction "Alternative for Germany" Steffen Kotrets called for an "immediate and direct response" to the threats of the senators.
