This is news that will delight Zinédine Zidane.

Gareth Bale, who is no longer in the plans of the French coach Real Madrid, is in talks with his former club Tottenham, his agent told the BBC on Tuesday.

“Gareth still loves Spurs,” Jonathan Barnett told BBC Sport Wales, “we are talking.

This is where he wants to go ”.

The British media had expressed in recent days the interest of Spurs, but also of Manchester United, which is looking for a fallback plan since the track leading to Dortmund and Jadon Sancho seems to be seriously cooling down.

Bale still has two years of contract in Madrid where he receives an estimated weekly salary of 650,000 euros.

The Merengues would be ready to consider a loan, even if it means taking part of the salary, but a dry transfer would also be an option.

Bale left Tottenham for Real in 2013 for just under € 100million, which was the biggest transfer in history at the time.

The 31-year-old won four La Liga from two Champions Leagues with Madrid, but he had only started one game when competition resumed, following the forced truce linked to Covid-19.

This summer, Tottenham have so far conducted a rather cautious but judicious recruitment drive, given their weaknesses last year, by signing Danish defensive midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojberg from Southampton, full-back Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton, as well as experienced goalie Joe Hart, without a contract.
