Future Network provides "tailor-made" services for industrial production

The traditional IP network is a "best effort" architecture, just like a highway. If there are too many cars, users will have no choice but to face a lot of uncertainty.

The Industrial Internet just needs a deterministic, differentiated and customizable network environment.

As research results related to the "service-oriented future network experimental environment and technological innovation" are accelerating in various places, Liu Yunjie, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the Purple Mountain Laboratory, is also getting busy.

“I’m going to Zhangjiakou this afternoon to discuss the deployment of the future network in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, and then rush to Shenzhen.” Recently, Liu Yunjie, who attended the opening ceremony of the Academician Expert Achievement Exhibition and Transformation Center of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in Shanghai, was interviewed by a reporter from Science and Technology Daily Shi sighed, "The traditional Internet has achieved great success in the consumer field, but there are huge challenges in the production field. The advantages of the Internet in the future have gradually emerged."

The first phase of the Academician Expert Achievement Exhibition Hall established by the Academician and Expert Achievement Exhibition and Transformation Center of the Chinese Academy of Engineering exhibited a total of more than 300 achievements of 200 academician and expert teams.

The major achievement of Liu Yunjie's team "service-oriented future network experimental environment and technological innovation" is one of them.

  What is the future network

The future network has been the main direction of Liu Yunjie's team for the past ten years. It is a research from scratch.

"We are one of the first teams in the world to do future network research. In 2005, we started to prepare for this matter. In 2007, we formed three teams at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Tsinghua University to carry out future network architecture research. "Liu Yunjie recalled.

In 2009, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the National Natural Science Foundation of China jointly launched the "Research on the Medium and Long-term Development Strategy of China's Engineering Science and Technology Facing 2030", setting up research and consulting topics related to future networks.

In 2010, when the National Development and Reform Commission launched a major scientific research project, Academician Li Guojie and Liu Yunjie jointly proposed the establishment of a future network experiment facility (CENI) project.

What exactly is the future network?

"To put it bluntly, it is a faster, simpler, customizable, reconfigurable, and safer next-generation Internet that is user-centric and allows people who surf the Internet to have a better experience." Liu Yunjie said.

He gave an example: "For example, if you want to send a large video back to the editorial department today, it may take a long time if you use the traditional network, but if you use a customized network, you can quickly get it done."

"Traditional IP networks are a'best effort' architecture, just like a highway. If there are too many cars, users will have no choice but to face a lot of uncertainty. The industrial Internet just needs certainty, differentiation and Customizable network environment." Liu Yunjie said, "The Internet has officially entered the second half. While demanding massive connections, it also requires the network to have deterministic service quality. This is the outstanding advantage of the Internet in the future."

Liu Yunjie said that at that time, not many people believed that Internet technology would undergo major changes. “At that time, our prediction was that the existing Internet architecture would encounter bottlenecks and could not meet some of the needs of the real economy, so it must be deployed in advance. Research on the future network."

  Personalized network service

"The Internet is a tool. It can only play its value when it integrates with the real economy and solves the actual problems of enterprises." Liu Yunjie said frankly, "From this perspective, our industrial network construction is still at a very early stage."

Liu Yunjie said that in the future network construction concept, the individualization of demand will allow each industry, enterprise, user, and even each application to have a customized network, and the on-demand service provision will also allow operators to sell bandwidth from the traditional. Transform to provide customized network services.

At the same time, the network utilization rate will increase from the current 50% to more than 90%, and the user's usage cost will be greatly reduced.

Liu Yunjie has investigated a large number of companies.

"Many companies have spent a lot of money, but the level of informatization and intelligence has not been greatly improved, nor has it brought actual benefits." He analyzed, "Even companies with a high level of networking still face Internet technology and communications. The issue of technology'seven countries and eight systems' and non-interoperability of data."

Companies must be guided to solve this problem with new technologies.

"In the development of the Industrial Internet, enterprises are the protagonists. It is recommended that the government set up some guiding funds and preferential policies to increase the enthusiasm of enterprises, let the scientific research team cooperate with enterprises in depth, and provide them with tailor-made network upgrade and transformation plans, and use enterprise big data to mine On the basis of and utilization, we use artificial intelligence to find shortcomings in the production process and propose solutions in a targeted manner.” Liu Yunjie also suggested, “A third party will evaluate the effectiveness of these tasks.”

"The goal of the CENI project is to build an advanced, open, flexible, and sustainable large-scale general test facility covering 40 backbone nodes and more than 130 edge nodes across the country." Liu Yunjie said.

Although there is no need to worry about the transformation of results, Liu Yunjie still hopes that through the Academician and Expert Achievement Display and Transformation Center of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the future network will radiate to more industries and enterprises, and help China's real economy, especially the manufacturing industry, to transform and upgrade.
