The French government has announced that it is postponing the start of the school year by eleven days in several overseas territories.

The health situation is considered "

very serious

", explains the government spokesperson.

Gabriel Attal spoke from Paris after a Council of Ministers back to school, this Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

These orientations were taken within the Health Defense Council, specifies the government spokesperson Castex.

The provisions, he said, will be incorporated into a bill presented to the Council of Ministers next week.

The date of the re-entry had already been postponed for French Polynesia, in the South Pacific.

The start of the school year will therefore also be postponed, to September 13, in Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy.

But also in the part of Guyana in the red zone.

The state of health emergency could also be extended until November 15 in the Antilles, Guyana, or again, in French Polynesia.

Blaming the confinement on the fact that incidence rates are starting to "

decline slightly

", the French government spokesperson believes that the situation "

nevertheless remains very serious

 ", especially in French Polynesia.

In Martinique, the prefecture has decided to extend the strict confinement established at the end of July for three weeks.
