Leipzig (dpa / sn) - IG Metall has called the 5500 employees of the Leipzig BMW plant for the fourth 24-hour warning strike on Friday afternoon in the wage conflict in the metal industry.

As the first authorized representative of IG Metall Leipzig, Bernd Kruppa, announced, the campaign should start at 3 p.m. with the start of the late shift.

Because of the pandemic, workers will be spending the warning strike at home.

The day before, the workers at the Porsche factory in Leipzig had already started their fourth full-day warning strike.

IG Metall is calling for a four percent pay increase.

In addition to future collective bargaining agreements and the improvement of takeover regulations for trainees, the union is demanding a collective adjustment allowance in order to reduce the difference in wages and working hours between East and West.

According to the union, around 290,000 employees in the Berlin-Brandenburg-Saxony collective bargaining district are affected.

«The employers are obliged to come up with solutions now.

Otherwise, they, but especially the corporate headquarters in the west, bear sole responsibility for a further escalation of the collective bargaining conflict, ”said Kruppa.

So far, however, there has been little movement in the direction of employee demands on the part of the employers' association.
