They are going to live for five months in the middle of the glaciers, without running water and in lower temperatures of up to -15 degrees... A nightmare for some, a dream for others, like these four women interviewed by the BBC.

Clare Ballantyne, Mairi Hilton, Natalie Corbett and Lucy Bruzzone had the pleasure of seeing their candidacies selected among the 6,000 candidates wishing to lead the historic site of Port Lockroy, on Goudier Island, in Antarctica.

Four complementary profiles

Port Lockroy is considered the most isolated post office in the world.

It also serves as a "living museum" and souvenir shop for tourists who venture into these icy lands.

Among the four new managers, Mairi Hilton will be in charge of monitoring the population of penguins living on Goudier Island, in order to check that the tourist frequentation does not upset their way of life.

Lucy Bruzzone, who has previously traveled to Antarctica for scientific purposes, will be the expedition leader.

Natalie Corbett will be responsible for managing the gift shop.

Finally, Clare Ballantyne will have to deal with post office mail.

All are looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

"I'm very excited to set my eyes on the white continent," says Mairi Hilton.

He added: "I don't know what to expect when we get there - will it be really cold, will we have to dig a path through the snow to the post office?

Same enthusiasm on the side of Natalie Corbett: “Who wouldn't want to spend five months working on an island populated by penguins in one of the most isolated places on the planet?
