The president of the German Football Federation (DFB), Fritz Keller, spoke on Tuesday for the introduction of a salary ceiling in European football which he wants to submit to UEFA.
"There are absurd salaries and transfer fees, which are no longer credible," Fritz Keller, who joined the powerful president of Bayern Munich Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, told reporters.
"We have to talk about salary caps. (...) This is why we are going to write a letter to UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin," added Fritz Keller.
Only the body that oversees European football can limit wages that are "partly worthy of another planet," says the boss of German football.
This "salary cap" must comply with European Union law and also applied by the United Kingdom, where there are several of the wealthiest clubs in Europe, he warns, however.
"Michel Platini had years ago the idea of introducing a salary cap in Europe, based on the American model," the chairman of Bayern told the Sky channel on Sunday.
The Frenchman, president of UEFA from 2007 to 2015, supposedly had the support "of all the big clubs in Europe. But we were told from the start that it was not compatible with the rules on competition ", assured Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
The boss of the DFB also called for a reform of financial fair play.
"We have to make professional football closer to the people," said Fritz Keller.
"The current health crisis has exposed problems in football that were previously overshadowed by records" in the amounts of transfers, he added.
