The morning breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

For this reason, you have to choose well what you will eat after hours of fasting to avoid stomach upset.

In this report published by the Spanish "Elemente Confedencial" website, the writer Angelis Gomez quoted the president of the Spanish Nutrition Foundation and Professor of Nutrition at the University of San Pablo, Gregorio Varela Moreras, that "breakfast should provide between 20% and 25% of the daily needs of the body." Of energy, it includes 3 basic food groups, including dairy, grains and fruits, and a fourth group that includes extra virgin olive oil, eggs, coffee and honey.

The author wondered whether it was possible to eat any type of food on an empty stomach, which of course depends on the individual's sensitivity (and tastes).

"Some foods are not recommended to be eaten on an empty stomach," explains Dr. Domingo Carrera, a nutritionist at the Medical Surgical Center for Gastroenterology.

Foods to be avoided

There are many foods that we eat without thinking every morning, which may be the reason behind the discomfort we may feel after eating this meal.

Here are some foods that should be taken care not to eat on an empty stomach:

1- Soft drinks or soda

Carrera warns that drinking a lot of fizzy drinks "irritates the gastric mucosa and increases the production of hydrochloric acid."

2- Pastries

Pastry is one of the most common foods for breakfast.

Carrera notes that it contains fats that stimulate gastric acid secretion.

3- White bread

When refined carbohydrates (such as white bread) are eaten on an empty stomach, this leads to a rapid rise in glucose and insulin levels, which drop shortly thereafter and cause a feeling of hunger that leads us to eat more food.

4- Coffee and tea

Dr. Carrera noted that "caffeine and theanine stimulate stomach acid production."

Therefore, it is not recommended to drink these drinks if a person suffers from heartburn problems.
