After the announcement on Wednesday of confinement by the President of the Republic, booksellers mobilized to remain open.

Deeming unfair to allow Fnac and large retailers to continue selling books, the government decided to ban the sale of books from them, during a crisis meeting held in Bercy, according to information from Europe 1.

“Faced with the observation of the impossibility of opening all the players in the sale of books, desired and supported by Fnac, and out of a concern for responsibility, I decided to close all the shelves culture of our Fnac stores throughout France from tomorrow and for the next two weeks, ”explains Enrique Martinez, CEO of Fnac in a note obtained from Europe 1.

Petition for the reopening of bookstores

"Reading books is an essential activity in our civic and individual lives," however pleaded Thursday the National Publishing Union, the Permanent Council of Writers and the National Union of French Bookstores in a press release.
