The quarantine measure was implemented because a refugee tested positive for the new crown pneumonia virus.
The confirmed refugee is a 40-year-old male from Somalia. He is the first confirmed case of new coronary pneumonia in the Moria refugee camp.
He has been sent to a hospital on Lesvos for isolation and treatment.
According to the Greek Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, the man has obtained refugee status and a residence permit and can live in Greece legally.
He left the refugee camp on July 17 and only returned in the last few days. After returning, he has been living in a tent outside the camp.
In order to prevent the spread of the epidemic, the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum stated that no one will be allowed to enter or leave the Moria refugee camp before September 15, and will increase the number of police officers around the camp. It has ensured that the quarantined persons comply with relevant epidemic prevention regulations. .
The Greek health department stated that it is currently actively tracing close contacts of the confirmed patient and quarantining all close contacts. At the same time, people in the refugee camp will be tested extensively for the new crown pneumonia virus.
As of August 31, there were 12,714 refugees (immigrants) living in Moria refugee camp and surrounding temporary tents, which far exceeded the maximum capacity of 2,757 people in the camp.
