Since Huawei was thwarted by the US embargo, other smartphone manufacturers from China have been fighting for the favor of German customers.

In addition to Xiaomi, with devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 11 and the Redmi Note 10 Pro in all price ranges, Oppo in particular is involved here - a newcomer in Germany and the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world.

In 2020, Oppo had already scored a lot in the “Computer Bild” test with the strong Find X2 Pro and the 5G price tip Find X2 Lite.

Now comes the Find X3 series.

Your top model: the Find X3 Pro.

With a large OLED display (6.7 inches / 17.02 cm), Qualcomm's brand new 5G power processor Snapdragon 888 and two 50-megapixel cameras, this means that the equipment is technically excellent at first glance.

But also some innovations that the cheaper Find X3 Neo and Find X3 Lite models lack.

The slightly cheaper Oppo Find X3 Neo and Find X3 Lite variants also have to prove themselves in the “Computer Bild” test, but this is first and foremost about the Pro and its innovations.

Innovation number 1: design from a single source

New case designs have become rare.

From the front, the Oppo Find X3 Pro looks like most Android smartphones - the front is almost completely (89 percent) filled by the display, the fingerprint sensor is hidden in the display, and the front camera is behind a small hole.

So far so good.

Once turned around, the Find X3 Pro differs from the monotony.

The back is formed from a piece of glass that curves smoothly around the large block of four cameras.

Curves that are somewhat reminiscent of futuristic seating furniture from 1970s films.

In the gray-blue variant tested, the glass is matt, and there is also a glossy black model in Germany.

For the production, Oppo claims that it takes an enormous amount of effort from over 100 work steps, the manufacture of the unibody from glass alone should take 40 hours.

Good: The housing is waterproof, certified according to IP68.

In the test, it survived the bath in the water column unscathed.

Innovation number 2: display with billions of colors

The Find X3 Pro works - of course - with an OLED screen of the finest quality, the term AMOLED presumably refers to Samsung as the manufacturer.

The 6.7-inch display is extremely sharp (525 ppi) thanks to a resolution of 3216x1440 pixels and achieved a very high brightness of 1019 candelas per square meter in the test.

And of course it works at 120 Hertz, so it shows moving images very smoothly.

The big innovation, however, are the colors: The display of the Oppo Find X3 Pro can display 1.07 billion (!) Colors and uses a full ten bits instead of the usual eight-bit color range (16.7 million colors).

A special feature: the camera also processes data with ten-bit colors, so that no color information is lost from the time it was taken to the display on the mobile phone.

In the laboratory, the display of the Oppo Find X3 Pro was particularly color-accurate.

Oppo also praises the use of the extended color space BT.2020, which has been developed primarily for video playback.

For the "Computer Image" test, the extended color space according to sRGB and DCI-P3, which is decisive for photos, is evaluated.

The Find X3 Pro only showed the good good results that are usual for this class, but we would have expected more from a good ten-bit display.

Oppo may be able to add a software update here.

Innovation 3: a camera with a microscope

A look at the data sheet of the Oppo Find X3 Pro is astonishing - we are actually talking about a microscope camera.

In fact, Oppo has installed a very special camera in the center left.

This offers an optical magnification by a factor of 30 from very close range.

Anyone who has ever tried with one eye on a real laboratory microscope to get a sharp image by fine adjustment of the eyepiece knows: With such magnifications, the subject gets out of focus even with the slightest movement of the lens.

A trick helps with the Oppo Find X3 Pro: the mobile phone is placed firmly on one side of the object, then the side with the camera is carefully tilted like a hinge until the subject can be seen in focus.

Since the lens is a few millimeters above the object, the microscope lens has its own LED lighting.

Overall not easy to implement.

But the results are impressive, as the sample images show.

Better ultra-wide-angle photos thanks to 50 MP sensor

Another smaller innovation is the 50 megapixel camera sensor IMX766, which Sony developed for and together with Oppo.

It is not only used in the standard camera, but also in the ultra-wide-angle camera.

The recordings of the ultra-wide-angle lens compared to the main camera do not fall as much as with many other smartphones.

In addition, there is a telephoto with an optical magnification just under factor 2 and a 13-megapixel lens.

At smaller zoom sizes (around four times) the telephoto camera still delivers decent quality, but at a maximum of factor 20 it falls behind zoom kings like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

The main camera, on the other hand, did well in the test - although not as good as the top models from Apple or Samsung.

Amazing: In low light, the camera of the cheaper Find X3 Neo even took slightly better photos - with the same 50 megapixel sensor, but apparently with a slightly different lens.

Find X3 Pro: Fast processor and 5G

The Oppo Find X3 Pro works with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 processor, which works at an enormous pace.

It is also the first Snapdragon top-of-the-range processor with integrated 5G, supporting all 5G frequencies common in Germany and more.

Twelve gigabytes of RAM are enough.

For comparison: The Find X3 Neo also has twelve GB of RAM, but uses the top processor from the previous year, the Snapdragon 865. It is also very fast, but not quite as fast.

The X3 Find Lite, on the other hand, comes from a significantly lower performance class, but still achieves a “good” rate with the Snapdragon 765 5G - and is more frugal in terms of power consumption.

The Find X3 Pro comes with very fast Wifi 6 with two antenna streams, but the Wifi 6e expected for mid-year is still missing.

Bluetooth and NFC are on board with all Find-X3 models, with Pro and Neo even in version 5.2.

Oppo Find X3 Pro: A GTI While Charging!

Whether it's the powerful processor, the 120 Hertz display, the high pixel density or the power-hungry software - the Oppo Find X3 Pro and the Find X3 Neo lose points in the test when it comes to battery life.

A running time of around seven and a half hours in the “Computer Bild” test course of practical continuous use is not really bad for a top Android smartphone.

But Apple shows with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, despite the smaller battery, that even powerful cell phones can run for a long time, and Samsung's S21 Ultra also lasts 45 minutes longer.

The Lite model does a better job here with over nine hours of runtime.

The SIM card slot accepts two nano SIM cards.

But maybe with the new Oppos the running time is not so important in the end?

Because charging is extremely fast with up to 65 watts - even with the smallest Find-X3 model.

The battery is charged to 60 percent in just 15 minutes and full after 43 minutes.

A note for Samsung and Apple users: Oppo includes the 65 watt power supply with all devices.

The Pro is the only Find-X3 model that also masters wireless induction charging, and with the appropriate charging cradle enables up to 30 watts of charging power.

Conclusion:

The Oppo Find X3 Pro delivers good to very good test results in all areas, making it a real alternative to Android flagships such as the Galaxy S21 Ultra or Xiaomi Mi 11. In the test, the innovative microscope camera and the particularly impressive the high quality of the ultra-wide-angle shots.

The fact that Oppo uses the most powerful technology in all areas has only one disadvantage: the battery life is good, but not sensational.

But the unbelievable loading speed should make you forget that quickly in everyday life.

Because after a good quarter of an hour the battery is almost half full again.

Alternative: Those who prefer a great zoom instead of a microscope camera prefer to use Samsung's Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Oppo Find X3 Pro, Oppo Find X3 Neo and Oppo Find X3 Lite will be available in stores from April 1, 2021, all with 5G and dual SIM as standard (one SIM with 5G, one with LTE).

The Pro and Neo come with 256 GB of storage, the Lite with 128 GB.
