The Prime Minister is due to unveil the government's measures against poverty on Saturday at an Emmaus center in Essonne.

But associations are already expecting announcements that do not meet their expectations.

The event was to take place last Saturday, on the occasion of the World Day Against Poverty, but the assassination of Samuel Paty shook up the program.

It is finally this Saturday that Jean Castex will unveil the government's measures against poverty, in an Emmaüs center in Epinay-sur-Orge, in Essonne.

Noting the explosion of requests for food aid and the sharp increase in requests for RSA, the associations fighting against poverty are calling for an increase in social minima, but they have few illusions about the response that the government will give them. .

"Millions of people who cannot live with dignity"

There was the announcement, ten days ago, by Emmanuel Macron, of exceptional assistance for people with the RSA and the unemployed who receive the specific solidarity allowance.

But what the associations have especially remembered is his little sentence closing the door to an increase in social minima: "Our fundamentals are the fight against poverty by returning to activity and work".

However, according to Marie-Aleth Grard, president of ATD Fourth World, one cannot go without the other today.

"This integration effort, so much the better if it takes place. It must be really very important. But that does not prevent raising the social minima, in particular the RSA", she insists.

“At the start, when it was the RMI, its amount was equal to 50% of the minimum wage. Its level has dropped to 39%. And it is millions of people who cannot live on this income, who are survival in our country, who are forced to go to food distributions, who cannot live with dignity. "

Measures for young people in precarious situations

We have understood that the government will not go in this direction.

Jean Castex is expected to announce new measures for young people in precarious situations, a reinforcement of integration and activity mechanisms, and the creation of additional accommodation places as the winter period approaches.
