Fears of a new wave of Corona in several countries

The emergence of a new wave of the emerging Corona virus, especially after recording a rise in the number of infections in several countries, most notably China, South Korea and countries in Western Europe, has raised a state of alert and fears of a new wave of the pandemic.

The American newspaper "Washington Post" reported that the high number of infections with the Corona virus in Western Europe and other countries made experts and health authorities in the United States on alert for another wave of the pandemic.

South Korea recorded another daily record of deaths from COVID-19, Thursday;

While health officials announced more than 621,000 new infections.

Two days ago, China recorded 5,280 new infections with the Corona virus, according to what the National Health Committee announced, in a daily toll that is the highest in two years, according to Sky News Arabia.

Germany also witnessed more than 250 thousand new cases and 249 deaths last Friday, which made the Minister of Health describe the situation in the country as “critical.”

And the "Washington Post" indicated that infectious disease experts are closely monitoring the sub-strain of the Omicron mutant, known as "BA.2", which appears to be more transmissible and spread compared to the original strain "BA.1".

It is not yet clear how many people will develop serious complications, and how this will affect hospitals and health care systems.

"So far, the mutant has spread to at least 12 countries, from Finland to Greece," Eric Topol, director of the Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, USA, said. "There is no doubt that there is a big wave."
