Before the visit of Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) to Poland, the leader of the national-conservative governing party PiS, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, reprimanded what he saw as "German hegemony" in the EU.
"What is happening now is an attempt to create a European state with Germany at the top," Kaczynski said on Sunday in the Baltic resort of Kolberg (Kolobrzeg).
Poland does not agree with this, he recently said this to the CDU chairman Friedrich Merz.
Baerbock travels to Warsaw on Monday.
There, the Greens politician wants to take part in the celebrations of the German Embassy on the Day of German Unity in the evening and give a speech.
On Tuesday morning, Baerbock met her Polish counterpart, Zbigniew Rau, for a talk at the Foreign Ministry.
With a view to the upcoming parliamentary elections in autumn 2023, the PiS government has intensified its anti-German rhetoric.
At the beginning of September, a parliamentary commission in Warsaw presented a report in which the damage caused by World War II in Poland was estimated at more than 1.3 trillion euros.
At the same time, Kaczynski had renewed the demand for compensation payments.
The topic should also play a role in the meeting between Baerbock and Rau.
The federal government rejects the demand for reparations.
In doing so, she refers to the Two Plus Four Agreement of 1990 on the foreign policy consequences of German unity.
