The European Super Cup will be the first match organized by UEFA, since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, which will have an audience in the stands.
One third of the seats in the Ferenc Puskas Arena in Budapest will be occupied by fans of Bayern and Sevilla, who will share space with local fans.
The brand new Coliseum in the capital of Magyar, with a capacity for 67,000 spectators, will be the setting for the final, considered as a UEFA dress rehearsal for the future of European football.
However, fear over the recent outbreaks in Hungary and political controversy punctuate the hours leading up to the match.
Just this week, Bayern confirmed that 800 of the 2,100 fans planning to attend the game had returned their tickets.
And the 1,300 who will travel must present a negative PCR test at the border.
It should be remembered that the outbreaks in Hungary, where more than 2,500 new cases have been detected in the last 72 hours, triggered the immediate response of the German authorities, who advised against their citizens to travel there.
Return of tickets
Even Bayern coach
Hansi Flick
was surprised by UEFA's decision to allow thousands of people to attend Puskas Stadium.
"We don't quite understand it," admitted the coach, unhappy with the decision of the body chaired by
Aleksander Ceferin
.
Sevilla, meanwhile, had to return 2,500 of the 3,000 tickets to which they were entitled.
The high prices of airline tickets, combined with the logical fear of the health crisis, will cause
Julen Lopetegui's
team to
leave with a numerical disadvantage in the stands.
Orban's support
The controversy over the permit to Budapest has moved into the already heated political debate in Hungary.
"This experiment is unacceptable. They are going to use 14,000 compatriots as guinea pigs to see how the virus spreads in mass gatherings. We refuse to expose Hungary to such a danger," said Deputy
Ildiko Borbely
, of the socialist party.
Prime Minister
Viktor Orban
believes that what happens on Thursday at the Ferenc Puskas Arena will be "safer than almost any other meeting."
For his part, the epidemiologist
Andras Csilek
, one of the advisers working on this matter, was reluctant to attend the public: "We consider it incorrect and we do not believe that it should be allowed."
