Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), an infectious disease authority, diagnosed that the United States has emerged from a pandemic.
"We are definitely out of the pandemic stage in this country right now," Fauci said on a PBS broadcast on the 26th.
"In other words, we don't have 900,000 new cases a day, we don't have hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations, we don't have tens of millions of deaths. We're at a low level right now," he said. If you ask me if I've passed the demonic stage, (my answer is) yes."
Fauci said the virus will not be eradicated, but that the level of the virus in the community could be kept very low if people were vaccinated intermittently and possibly annually.
Fauci also pointed out that the COVID-19 situation in the United States does not necessarily reflect what is happening in other parts of the world.
He said, "Pandemic means an epidemic that spreads rapidly among people widely throughout the world. So, looking at the global situation, there is no doubt that this pandemic is still going on."
Director Fauci's remarks are interpreted to mean that the Corona 19 epidemic can occur locally in a specific country or region.
In the United States, the number of new confirmed cases has been generally stable since the spread of COVID-19 due to micron mutations in the United States last winter and then subsided.
Recently, as BA.2, a sub-mutant that is more contagious than Omicron, became the dominant species, the number of confirmed patients returned to an upward trend, but the increase is not as explosive as in Omicron.
According to data from the New York Times (NYT), the average daily number of new COVID-19 cases in the United States for seven days as of the 26th was 5791, a 61% increase from two weeks ago.
