Oldenburg (dpa / lni) - The farms with holiday apartments in Lower Saxony urgently need a perspective from the point of view of the holiday and leisure time in the country working group.

For about six months, the companies have had no income from tourist accommodation, said the managing director of the working group, Vivien Ortmann, in Oldenburg.

It is particularly hard that the Easter business has dropped for the second time.

"Many are in financial need." Many businesses are therefore not entitled to government economic aid because they earn money with agriculture. But: "Often the income from agriculture is not enough," says Ortmann. The companies deliberately opted for two pillars, now one has broken away. According to a survey by the working group, the almost 900 rural tourism businesses in Lower Saxony have posted a loss in sales of around 45 million euros since March 2020. According to Ortmann, the financial situation is particularly bad for smaller companies.

From the point of view of the holiday and leisure time in the country working group, a safe holiday on the farm is possible even in the corona pandemic.

"The companies proved it last summer," said Ortmann, the tourism manager.

“There's a lot of space in the courtyards.

The guests have their holiday apartment where they can provide for themselves. "

The companies therefore have hygiene concepts, and an obligation to test for guests and employees would not be a problem.

Ortmann said that it is incomprehensible that people fly abroad on vacation but are not allowed to spend the night on their local farm.

"We want to open."

According to the working group, the industry urgently needs a clear statement from politicians as to when vacation in a holiday home is possible again under what circumstances.
