He was already about 40 kg when he pointed the tip of his horns, on the night of March 3 to 4.

This Tuesday, the biopark of Doué-la-Fontaine, in Maine-et-Loire, formalized the “extremely rare” birth of a baby black rhinoceros in its park.

Kinna, a little female, is indeed the first of her species to be born in a zoo in the world in 2022. Coincidentally, a second little one was born a few minutes later in a park located in the Czech Republic.

🦏 It is with great emotion that we announce the birth of a baby black rhinoceros at the Bioparc!

This first baby rhino from Doué-la-Fontaine, which comes after “several unsuccessful attempts and an unfortunate birth in 2018”, is not currently visible to the public.

“She will live her first months exclusively with her mother (…) and will be weaned after two years”, indicates the park team.

On average, four rhinos of this species, in “critical danger of extinction”, are born each year in a zoological park in the world.
