The cast of Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio is starting to get clearer. If we already knew that Ron Perlman, David Bradley, Christoph Waltz, Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton were going to play in the new project of the director of Pan's Labyrinth , we still did not know in which roles they had been cast. Ewan McGregor appeared in the ACE Universe podcast and had interesting information: his character in the new adaptation of cult history.
“I play Jiminy Cricket in the Pinocchio version of Guillermo Del Toro. We started working on it before I left for New York, so we have already recorded some parts. It's stop-motion animation, so it's going to take them a very long time to shoot the film. But the first part of my work, the recording of the dialogue, is almost finished. I may also record a song, but I don't have the right to speak about it yet, ”he said.
Still out of focus
We also know that Netflix gave creative freedom to Guillermo Del Toro to make the Pinocchio of his dreams. The Oscar-winning filmmaker began work on the project in 2008 and the streaming service recovered production ten years later. The script was entrusted to Gris Grimly, Patrick McHale and Matthew Robbins, while Alexandre Desplat will sign the music for the film.
This new Pinocchio is due to be released in 2021. It is not known whether the confinement linked to the coronavirus had an impact on production. Netflix hasn't announced anything yet.
