June 23, 2020 The President of the European Council Charles Michel convened an extraordinary European summit on Recovery Funds and the 2021-2027 budget for July 17 and 18 in Brussels, with the physical presence of the leaders. This was announced by his spokesman on Twitter. This is the first face-to-face summit that has been held since 22 February. The summit will begin on 17 July at ten in the morning.

S&D Group: "Adopt urgently Recovery fund in July"
Today during the meeting of the leaders of the political groups of the EU Parliament with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, "I insisted on the need to urgently adopt the Recovery Plan in July and to agree on new EU own resources". So in a tweet the president of the group of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) in the EU Parliament, Iratxe García Perez. "Now - stresses the MEP - it's time to put pressure" on the European Council.

Gentiloni: "Recovery Fund is historic, let's face crisis together"
"It is an important precedent. Before there was the Troika, the memorandum: did a country have a problem? Europe provided the resources to face it, under a series of conditions Now the crisis is common, and for the first time in the history of the European project, we are facing it by creating common fiscal instruments ". So is the European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni, speaking of the Recovery Fund and of the European plan for recovery, the Next Generation Eu.     

The commissioner and former Italian prime minister answered questions from over 275 students from 39 European countries during the meeting "The Big Catalyst: how the Pandemic is shaping Europe", second edition of the ID-Budapest European Agora (Bea). During the debate, Gentiloni highlighted that with the Recovery Fund, Europe is putting policies with economic "firepower" into play for the first time. "Not only thresholds and rules - explained the commissioner - but billions of euros, to be used for common objectives".   

During the initiative, chaired by former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta and born from the partnership between the School of Policies (Sdp), the Jacques Delors Institute and the Acade'mie Notre Europe in Paris, the Delors Center of the Hertie School of Berlin and the Bertelsmann Foundation, Gentiloni has also been solicited by the concerns of some member countries, defined as "frugal", regarding the Recovery Fund.
