Fathi Al-Ayadi, spokesman for the Tunisian Ennahda Movement, considered what President Kais Saied is doing as a "soft attempt to overthrow the constitution."

Al-Ayadi added, during his participation in the evening program on Al-Jazeera Mubasher, on Tuesday, that the president “seeks to push the security and military agencies and push them into politics instead of seeking to make these institutions play their neutral role of defending and protecting the country’s institutions.”

During the celebration of the Internal Security Forces Day, Tunisian President Kais Saied confirmed that he is the supreme commander of the military and civil forces, which caused a political and legal controversy.

The president added in front of a large gathering of internal security personnel and in the presence of the prime minister and parliament speaker that he is “the supreme commander of the military armed forces and the civil armed forces and all their wires,” explaining that the Tunisian constitution, through its chapters 17, 18 and 19, differentiates between military forces and internal security forces.

On the other hand, a statement issued by the Ennahda Movement revealed its astonishment at President Said's position, in violation of the constitution, and considering it an abolished document.

The statement stressed that the inauguration of the president himself as commander of the military and civil armed forces represents "an infringement on the Tunisian political system and the powers of the prime minister."

Al-Ayadi said, “We elected President Qais Saeed in order to help us complete the constitutional path in the country and the victory for the revolution’s values represented in freedom, justice and the Palestinian cause.

But it seems that the president changed many of his positions as soon as he came to power and moved to private interpretations of the constitution, and his goal is to change the constitution itself and amend the existing political system in Tunisia according to what he sees personally.

The leader of the Ennahda party stressed that "the crisis in Tunisia today is a political one, and that the president, after his recent visit to Egypt, proceeded to adopt an extirpatory discourse against many political forces, including the Ennahda party."

Al-Ayadi concluded that there is a consensus among the Tunisian political forces that Said is working to activate the requirements of the 1959 Constitution instead of adopting the Constitution of the Revolution adopted in 2014.

He said that the president sought to expand his powers at the expense of the powers of the prime minister, and sought exclusivity in ruling and building the system of the presidential system, despite his violation of the constitution.
