  Musk reportedly said in a TED Talk interview, "If I go to the San Francisco Bay Area, where most of Tesla's engineering is located, I'll basically take turns staying in guest rooms at my friends' houses."

  When asked about the wealth gap between ordinary Americans and billionaires, Musk said he doesn't think his personal spending is high, aside from using a private jet.

"But if I don't use the plane, I work less hours," Musk said.

  In addition, according to British Sky News, citing US media reports, Musk has sold all seven of his California properties for about $128 million.
