Egypt: thwarting the marriage of a child to a child who marries for the second time

 The National Council for Childhood and Motherhood announced that it had succeeded in thwarting the marriage of two children who had not reached the legal age in one of the villages of the facility center in Sohag governorate, before the girl "bride" left the hairdresser.


Dr. Sahar Al-Sunbati, Secretary-General of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, explained that the council’s child emergency phone 16000 had received an urgent notification from a parent stating the intention of the father of a 15-year-old girl to marry her to a 17-year-old child, indicating that the wedding had been completed in One day the report submitted to the council.

Al-Sunbati added that the council immediately took all necessary measures to stop this marriage, as the incident was referred to the governorate's protection committee and to the partner association for urgent intervention and to verify the information received and take the necessary measures, and the subcommittee confirmed the validity of the information received in the report, and immediately a report on this was issued. The incident, indicating that the child "the groom" was heading to the child bride in the salon where she was to complete the marriage procedures.

Al-Sunbati said that the Public Prosecution was informed, which ordered that the two children and the parents of the two children be brought to the Serail of the Public Prosecution, and they signed a declaration pledging not to marry the children before they reach the legal age, pointing out that the prosecution proceeds with its procedures in this incident.

Al-Sunbati revealed that the groom had previously married another girl who had not reached the legal age a year ago, and he had a child from her and did not obtain a birth certificate for him, as he expelled his wife, "the child" from his home and took the child, indicating that all will be presented. Ways of support for this young child and his mother to prove the child's lineage and obtain a birth certificate for him.


Al-Sunbati confirmed that this incident is a violation of the rights of the child, and that marrying a girl before reaching the legal age exposes her to many health risks during pregnancy and childbirth, and that she was not mature enough to choose a life partner, explaining that child marriage deprives the girl from completing her education, and it is nothing but a dedication to a circle Poverty and ignorance.
