Curfews and canceled sports competitions do not necessarily stop the world's best pole jumpers from measuring the forces with each other. In order to quench the thirst of fans for sports, the International Athletics Association has, to say the least, found a creative solution.

On Sunday at 17, Swedish time, Sweden's big stake hop star, world record holder Armand Duplantis, will make up two of the sport's really big ones from their own garden.

Do not like to lose

The plan is that the three jumpers - double world champion Sam Kendricks, USA, and the 2012 Olympic champion, Renaud Lavillenie, France, are the other two - connect to a live video broadcast and then make their jumps from the respective backyard.

"I am delighted to be able to compete again, especially against Sam and Renaud," Armand Duplantis said in a press release.

“Since we do not know what other competitions we will have, we will really enjoy this. It is also very important to win because I am not very fond of losing to them ”.

Duplantis makes his jumps on the back of his parents' home in Lafayette, Louisiana, Kendricks from his backyard in Oxford, Mississippi, and Lavillenie's stake jumping stand at the home of French Clermont-Ferrand.

Can be more branches

But it will not be the usual arrangement that the person who jumps the highest wins, because it becomes too complicated to control the heights and make raises between the jumps. Instead, the trio have come up with their own concept: for 30 minutes they should try to jump over 5.00 meters as many times as possible.

“The challenge is that we do not know what will be required to win, so it will be a difficult trade-off. But I know it doesn't matter what we do together. We all want to win, ”says Sam Kendricks.

The competition will be broadcast live via the International Athletics Association's social media, and if the trial is successful there may be more similar competitions going forward, in other branches.
