Dubai International Financial is the first accredited member of the Global Privacy Society in the region

The Dubai International Financial Center announced that it has joined the Global Privacy Society as the first accredited member in the region.
The announcement of this membership comes after a series of developments in the financial center through the issuance of the Data Protection Law No. (5) of 2020, which affirms the DIFC's commitment to applying international best practices and promoting principles related to the areas of privacy and security, including accountability for observers. Data processors and guarantees for international money transfers, and support for the rights of data subjects, especially with regard to emerging technology issues.
The World Privacy Association was established in 1979, and it is the first international group concerned with issues of data protection and privacy, and includes more than 130 bodies and commissions for information and privacy, and its management is headed by the Office of the British Information Commissioner, which is an independent body, created to support information rights in the public interest, and to promote open data with Public bodies and data privacy for individuals.
The DIFC will work with members of the World Privacy Association to implement global best practices in protecting data and its privacy, in support of sustainable business growth, and shaping the future of the financial sector, while fulfilling the effectiveness of privacy mandates.
Data Protection Commissioner at the DIFC Authority, Jack Visser, said in a statement yesterday: “We are proud to announce that the DIFC has joined the International Privacy Association as the first accredited member in the region, to continue our efforts to provide comprehensive privacy legislation that meets the highest international standards. And it underpins our commitment to pioneering the future of the financial sector.
This membership will enable us to enhance the financial position's prestigious position in the areas of innovation and cooperation, while embracing ethical values in sharing data. ”
