Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has completed the installation of two "green charger" stations for charging electric cars at the Dubai Expo site office, as part of its efforts to make the Dubai Expo sustainable during the exhibition over a period of six months and beyond. The authority is also working on installing 15 stations in each of Opportunity, Sustainability and Mobility pavilions to serve electric vehicles for exhibition visitors.

The managing director and CEO of the authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, affirmed that “the authority is contributing, in cooperation with the concerned authorities, to preparing to host the best edition of the Expo that the world can ever witness in Dubai. He added that «the authority has accomplished, in the journey to host the Dubai Expo, giant projects and achievements on the ground, including the establishment and development of networks for the transmission of electricity and water, and the cost of the three main transmission stations amounted to about 420 million dirhams. We were keen to speed up the completion of our projects that support the provision of sustainable energy for the facilities of this global event in accordance with the highest standards of availability, reliability and efficiency. ”
He added that «the authority’s plan to install 17 green charger stations on the Expo site is part of our efforts to achieve the initiative» (Smart Dubai), launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city. As for the owners of commercial vehicles belonging to institutions, companies, governmental and semi-government agencies, they must pay fees of 29 fils per kilowatt hour, as of next January.
