Dubai Electricity and Water Authority launched 20 new main power transmission stations during 2020, at a cost of 2.6 billion dirhams, including a 400 kV plant in the Dubai South area, with a conversion capacity of 2020 MVA, and 19 132 kV stations in several areas in Dubai, with a conversion capacity of 2700 MV Ampere.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said: “We are working within the framework of the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide an advanced and integrated infrastructure for electricity and water, according to the highest standards of availability. And reliability, efficiency and safety, to meet the growing demand and keep pace with the needs of sustainable development in Dubai, and the launch of the new transfer stations is part of the authority’s efforts to raise the capacity, efficiency and readiness of the electricity transmission network in the emirate to meet the future needs of dealers, developers and business sectors.

Al Tayer explained that “the total value of the authority’s investments in the electricity transmission sector amounts to 11.2 billion dirhams, of which 2.4 billion dirhams are for the main transmission projects of 400 kilovolts and 8.8 billion dirhams for the major transmission projects of 132 kilovolts, and all stations are implemented according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency. And safety, based on the latest digital technologies for substations, as part of the authority's efforts to promote digital transformation in all its service and operational operations.

For his part, the Executive Vice President of the Energy Transmission Sector at the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Engineer Hussain Lootah, indicated that the implementation of the transmission stations during the year 2020 was according to the established plans despite the obstacles associated with the spread of the new Corona virus pandemic, explaining that the total of the transfer stations is 400 kilovolts per Dubai, totaling 23 stations, in addition to four stations under construction, while a total of 132 kV substations reaches 302, in addition to 42 under construction.

It is noteworthy that the UAE, represented by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, has maintained for the third year in a row the first place in the world in obtaining electricity, according to the World Bank's Doing Business 2020 report, which measures the ease of doing business in 190 economies around the world.
