Today, the Arab world is witnessing the closing ceremony of the largest Arab reading initiative to crown the champion of the fifth session of the "Arab Reading Challenge", organized by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, which recorded in this session the largest number of participants in its history with 21 million participants out of 52 A country, despite the challenge of the global “Corona” pandemic.

The closing ceremony of the "Arab Reading Challenge", which is organized under the patronage and participation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will be broadcast this evening on MBC.

The celebration will witness the announcement of the winner of the title of "Arab Reading Challenge Champion" in its fifth session, in addition to the winners of the Distinguished Supervisor and Distinguished School titles.

The closing ceremony is the last and most prominent stop of the fifth session of the “Arab Reading Challenge”, the largest of its kind in terms of participation, which transformed the “Covid-19” epidemic challenge into an opportunity by activating all digital solutions to read and summarize books, evaluate participations, and conduct qualifying.

From 49 countries in the last session, 120,000 supervisors participated in this session, who helped students master the abilities of reading and summarizing books, compared to 99,000 supervisors who participated in the fourth edition of the challenge, while the challenge in this session included 96,000 schools, compared to 67,000 schools. in its last session.

The "Arab Reading Challenge" effectively employed digital solutions to overcome the challenge of the "Covid-19" pandemic in this fifth edition of the "Arab Reading Challenge".

The winners of the “Reading Challenge” were announced at the country level (hypothetically) in previous periods, after the qualifying rounds, which also took place by default, due to the precautionary and health preventive measures that accompanied the “Corona” pandemic, and affected the educational system in many countries of the world.

And judging committees of experts, specialists and educators competing in the “Arab Reading Challenge” were evaluated virtually at the level of schools, educational districts and countries to test their expressive and conversational skills, their speed of intuition, their erudition, and their ability to arrange their ideas and present them clearly.

The celebration represents the culmination of all stages of the qualifications of the fifth session of the “Arab Reading Challenge”, which took place at the level of the participating countries in several stages, including schools, educational areas, leading to the coronation of champions at the level of the participating Arab countries, and to achieve the goals of the “Arab Reading Challenge” in raising the level of Awareness of the importance of reading among all participating students at the level of the Arab world and the world, enhancing their general culture, developing mechanisms for assimilation and self-expression in a sound Arabic language, and developing self-learning skills and critical and creative thinking.

The celebration will witness the announcement of the name of the distinguished school in the fifth edition of the "Arab Reading Challenge", according to several criteria, most notably enabling students to have the abilities and skills required to read and summarize books and actively participate in promoting the culture of reading among its students and the society in which they are located.

The celebration will also witness the announcement of the winner of the title of "Outstanding Supervisor" for the fifth session of the "Arab Reading Challenge", in honor of the role of 120,000 supervisors who supported students in their schools and trained them to acquire the required skills in reading and expression, and to present the content of what they saw in distinctive summaries.

The idea of ​​the "Arab Reading Challenge" is based on summarizing each participant 50 books in five reading passports, which contain 10 pages, so that the summary of each book is written on a page.

Because of the “Covid-19” pandemic, the fifth edition of the “Arab Reading Challenge” adopted the principle of electronic summaries instead of paper reading passports, so that the participants summarized the content of what they viewed in digital form.

The “Covid-19” challenge turned into an opportunity in this session, as the qualifiers took place in a digital format that relied on technology solutions, to ensure the continuity of the largest Arab reading initiative and its continued expansion.
