DRC: President Tshisekedi outlines the state of siege in Ituri and North Kivu

In a recorded speech, President Félix Tshisekedi called on the population, the political class and even the media to support the efforts of the security forces.
He decided to give them power and suspend the authorities and civil justice.
All officially to put an end to the massacres raging in these two conflicting provinces.

President Tshisekedi signed two ordinances which specify
the conditions for the implementation of this state of siege
.
Governors and provincial assemblies will continue to receive full benefits, but effective May 6, they lose power in favor of a military governor and a vice-governor from the ranks of the police.
We do not yet know the names of the various officers appointed, but they will have considerable powers.
From day and night searches, arrests to the prohibition of publications or even the movement of people.
Civil justice is also suspended.
It is military justice which will be called upon to judge
all crimes in these two provinces
.
The immunities granted to officials will be suspended during this period, we also learned through these orders.
These measures are temporary, the state of siege should last one month and be renewed every two weeks.
In his message, President Tshisekedi said he was committed to finding "
a definitive solution to the unacceptable situation
" in the East.
"
No Congolese should remain indifferent
", declared the head of state.
He also assured to have instructed the government so that the security forces benefit from all the logistical support necessary for the operations.
