Dolly Parton statues to replace those of the Confederates

Dolly Parton fans have found an elegant and fun solution to replace Confederate statues and monuments in Tennessee: install statues of the queen of the country instead! Part like a joke launched by Alex Parsons, a resident of this southern state, the idea germinated and turned into a petition, which exceeded 16,000 signatures (on a target of 25,000).

"History should not be forgotten, but we do not need to honor those who do not deserve our compliments. Instead, I offer to honor a real Tennessee heroine, Dolly Parton. Dolly Parton has given more to this country and this state than these Confederate officers. Let us replace the statues of these men who tried to divide the country, with a monument dedicated to a woman who worked all her life to bring us together, "he explains in the description of his petition, which he intends to deposit before state authorities.

It's time

Dolly Parton already has a statue in her hometown, Sevierville, Tennessee, which paid tribute to her with a monument in court and has become a tourist attraction in the area. For several months, voices have been raised asking for the removal of a statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest, one of the first leaders of the Ku Klux Klan, installed in the state capitol, in Nashville, for more than 40 years.

While many statues of Confederate soldiers and historic figures associated with slavery and racism are destroyed throughout the United States on the sidelines of the Black Lives Matter movement, Alex Parsons' proposal is timely. Luckily on the calendar, this petition is launched when Dolly Parton has just opened pre-orders for her new book, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics , which will be released next November.
