Making DoCoMo a Subsidiary "Fair Competitive Environment Obstruction" Opinion Statement of Three Businesses November 11, 13:42

Regarding NTT's making NTT DoCoMo a wholly owned subsidiary, telecommunications carriers such as KDDI, Softbank, and Rakuten requested the establishment of a fair competitive environment and submitted a written opinion to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

This was revealed at a joint press conference by KDDI, Softbank, and Rakuten.

NTT has announced that it will invest about 4.2 trillion yen to make NTT DoCoMo a wholly owned subsidiary, and the tender offer for TOB = shares is underway by the 16th of this month.

According to the written opinion submitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications by 28 telecommunications carriers, including three companies, there are concerns that NTT DoCoMo will be given preferential treatment by using the optical fiber network of NTT East and West Japan.

In addition, the substantial integration of NTT East / West and NTT DoCoMo may hinder a fair competitive environment, such as eliminating competitors due to its huge market power.

For this reason, we are requesting that businesses and experts who compete in public places such as the council discuss, and that NTT be instructed and reported on measures to ensure a fair competitive environment.

At the press conference, Takashi Kishida, Deputy General Manager of KDDI's Public Relations Headquarters, said, "It is necessary to firmly establish the rules for fair competition. Depending on the situation, we would like to consider responding to the Fair Trade Commission."
