In the controversial discussion about the number of spectators at a soccer test match by Eintracht Frankfurt, the city of Frankfurt and the state of Hesse are still not in agreement.

While the Ministry of Social Affairs specified on Sunday that a maximum of 5,000 spectators may be in the stadium on Saturday against AS Saint-Étienne due to the increased incidence, the city continues to assume the originally targeted number of 10,000 fans.

Of these, 5,000 people should have been vaccinated or recovered.

"During the approval process, we strictly adhered to the ordinance of the state of Hesse to protect the population from infections with the coronavirus," said Stefan Majer, who is the head of the health department in Frankfurt am Main.

We now need incentives for people to continue to be vaccinated.

“And for many, a soccer game is such an incentive,” said Majer.

Eintracht Frankfurt wants to take legal action against the sudden reduction.

Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD) also criticized the ministry for the decision and wrote an open letter to the state government.
