Teuchern (dpa / sa) - The Deuben lignite power station (Burgenlandkreis) is scheduled to cease production by the end of 2021.

This was announced by the Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlengesellschaft (Mibrag) on Thursday.

According to its own statement, the company took part in the second round of the auction procedure for the early shutdown of power plant capacities and was awarded the contract.

The basis is the coal-fired electricity termination law passed by the federal government in 2020.

Employees who are between 58 and 63 years old at the time of shutdown should have access to the so-called adjustment allowance.

According to Mibrag, younger people are given alternative employment opportunities in the company.

Most recently, around 200 employees worked at the Mibrag site in Deuben.
