Young people gathered on Friday evening for a party on the Esplanade des Invalides in Paris, until the police intervened to disperse them.

During this time, the spectators of Roland-Garros benefited from an exceptional exemption.

Some denounce a policy of "double standards".

The Roland-Garros audience was able to follow the Nadal-Djokovic match on Friday evening beyond 11 p.m. thanks to an exceptional exemption from the curfew, granted at the last minute.

Meanwhile on the Esplanade des Invalides, the police evacuated an improvised party.

Political reactions increased on Monday.

On Twitter, Florian Philippot, founder of the Les Patriotes party, speaks of a "curfew for the beggars" and of a "derogation for the wealthy".

Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, of the "Debout la France" party, spoke on CNews of a "double standards, two measures" policy.

"At Roland Garros, there is a pampered public. And then the young people who are evacuated."

An authorization negotiated with the Prime Minister's office

The Paris police headquarters justifies the intervention of the police at the Invalides by citing a "disregard for health rules".

As for Roland-Garros, the president of the French tennis federation talks about respected barrier gestures, social distancing and masks on all faces.

Gilles Moretton welcomed the granting of this exemption at the last minute.

"I wanted to thank the Elysee and Matignon for allowing us to go to the end of this legendary match," he said on Friday evening.

To the question of the journalist Nelson Monfort, who asked him to whom he had addressed himself "to have the authorization", Gilles Moretton did not answer. According to information from Europe 1, negotiations were held with the Prime Minister's office. If Matignon granted an exceptional exemption, it is thanks to a rigorous health protocol, underlines the cabinet. One thing is certain, such a decision has necessarily been validated by the President of the Republic.
