China News Service, Yibin, April 7 (Liu Zhongjun, Shan Peng) "I was cooking at home when the earthquake happened, and I heard a loud noise outside. After realizing the earthquake, I hurried out." On the afternoon of the 6th, Yao Hongfen, who lives in Xianfeng Miao Township, Xingwen County, Yibin City, recalled the scene of the earthquake when she met the members of the Sichuan Earthquake Administration's field work team.

On the 6th, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred in Xingwen County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province.

As of 9:00 on the 7th, the earthquake caused a total of 2,896 people in 3 townships in Xingwen County and Changning County of Yibin City to be affected, 1,045 people were transferred for emergency escape, and 98 people were transferred and resettled (all were centralized resettlement); ordinary houses were damaged. There were 694 rooms in 622 households, 25 households with 28 rooms were seriously damaged; the direct economic loss was 9.2 million yuan, including 6.9 million yuan in house and household property loss, 1.1 million yuan in infrastructure loss, and 1.2 million yuan in public service loss.

After the earthquake, the Sichuan Earthquake Administration dispatched 7 teams and 24 investigators to conduct earthquake investigations at 17 points in 7 townships in the earthquake area.

In Qunyu Village, Xianfeng Miao Township, Xingwen County, Groups 2 and 1 in Dayuan Community of Xianfeng Miao Township, and Group 3 in Xinglong Village, staff surveyed more than 20 households.

At Yao Hongfen's home, Fan Kaihong, a senior engineer at the Earthquake Emergency Service Center of the Sichuan Earthquake Administration, carefully checked the damage to the house.

According to Fan Kaihong, after the earthquake, the Sichuan Earthquake Administration will send staff to conduct on-site investigations. Through visiting the survey results, the earthquake intensity map will be drawn as soon as possible.

The earthquake intensity map will be used for post-disaster recovery and reconstruction, scientific research and post-disaster prevention.

During the investigation, the staff visited every natural village in the earthquake area to observe the damage of residential buildings, including determining whether the load-bearing structure of the house was damaged, judging the degree of damage to the house, etc., and then determined the intensity of the earthquake in the village and town according to the corresponding standards, and finally put the intensity into an estimate. Go to the map to form control points and form an earthquake intensity map.

At the investigation site in Xianfeng Miao Township, the reporter saw some houses with falling tiles and cracked walls.

In this regard, Fan Kaihong said that in Xianfeng Miao Township, in addition to the public houses with steel structures, most of the houses are brick houses, and some brick houses built before and after the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008 were relatively seriously damaged.

"The Xianfeng Miao Township where the epicenter is located, the damaged houses are basically houses without seismic fortification measures. They were built earlier and are mainly prefabricated slab structures or brick-concrete structures. In contrast, there are relatively complete seismic fortification measures. The damage to the houses is obviously minor or basically intact. According to the on-site investigation, there are only a few houses that have suffered moderate or above damage." Fan Kaihong said.

Another significance of conducting post-earthquake surveys is to strengthen the guidance of people in building houses in the future.

"We recommend that people build their own houses with anti-seismic fortification measures, that is, design ring beams and structural columns. In the face of earthquakes of this intensity, the houses that have been formally designed will basically not be damaged at an intermediate level or above." Fan Kaihong said.
