A demonstration experiment is being conducted to enable the delivery location of cargo when absent is specified in the passenger's car instead of the conventional front door.

The delivery staff uses a smartphone to temporarily unlock the car, and after confirming safety, we aim to put it into practical use.

The demonstration experiment is conducted by Yamato Transport Co., Ltd., a major delivery company, and KDDI, a major telecommunications company, and Toyota Motor Corporation is also cooperating.

The car of the user participating in the experiment is equipped with a dedicated device that can operate the lock with a smartphone, and the delivery person who received the request of the user reads the barcode of the baggage slip with the smartphone and locks it. It is a mechanism to cancel.

The unlocking time is limited to 10 minutes at the longest, and the engine cannot be started.

Also, if the delivery person leaves the luggage and then tries to leave without unlocking the car, a warning message will be displayed on the screen of the smartphone.

In order to avoid redelivery, the number of "placements" that place luggage at the front door of an absent house is increasing year by year, but the challenge is to prevent theft, and we aim to put it into practical use after confirming safety through experiments. about it.

Yuya Morishita, the person in charge of Yamato Transport, said, "If we can put our luggage in a locked car, we will be able to specify" delivery "with more peace of mind."

Demand for "delivery" increases with the new corona

With the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the tendency to refrain from going out has increased, and the use of online shopping has expanded. It increased by 11.9% from the previous year.

Furthermore, according to the delivery companies, there is a tendency to avoid contact, and there is an increasing demand for "delivery" that allows you to receive packages without facing the delivery staff.

In August of last year, Japan Post conducted a demonstration experiment in collaboration with a venture company to verify whether "delivery" is possible not only in single-family homes but also in auto-locked condominiums.

The face of the delivery person in charge is registered in advance on the tablet terminal, and the face recognition is used to temporarily enter the building so that the luggage can be carried to the front door.

It means that safety is ensured by preventing delivery staff from entering the building except during working hours.

Since such an increase in "delivery" will lead to a reduction in redelivery, other major delivery companies such as Yamato Transport and Sagawa Express, which are suffering from labor shortages, are also conducting demonstration experiments of "delivery" at auto-lock condominiums. increase.
