At the major supermarket "Hankyu Oasis" headquartered in Osaka, we have decided to start a demonstration experiment for a "store without a cash register" in the future.

It is a system that automatically calculates when a product is placed in a cart with a camera, and it seems that the aim is to realize shopping that reduces contact with people due to corona sickness.

H2O Retailing, a major retailer headquartered in Osaka, will start a demonstration experiment of a system that automatically calculates the price of products purchased at its supermarket "Hankyu Oasis".

This system was developed by New Zealand IT company "Imagr", and four cameras are installed in a dedicated cart.

When you insert a product, AI will recognize which product it is and the amount will be displayed on the dedicated app.

If you take out the product from the cart and put it back on the shelf, it will be judged by the camera and AI, and the amount will be automatically deducted.

For the time being, we will use the cash register of the store at the final accounting stage, but in the future we will settle on the app and aim for a store without a cash register.

"H2O Retailing" seems to have the aim of realizing shopping that reduces contact with people due to the corona sickness and solving labor shortages.

With regard to stores without cash registers, FamilyMart is accelerating the movement to conduct experiments and introductions, such as opening stores that use cameras and sensors to perform unmanned accounting.
