10 June 2020 The Surveillance Court of Bologna has rejected the appeal of the defense of Raffaele Cutolo for the postponement of the execution of the sentence, with home detention, for health reasons.

The 78-year-old founder of the New Organized Camorra therefore remains in prison in Parma, where he is held under 41 bis. The judges, who made an extensive assessment after the ruling of the magistrate of Reggio Emilia on 12 May, confirm that the boss's conditions are not incompatible with prison detention.

It is still a symbol
"It can be believed that the presence of Raffaele Cutolo could strengthen the criminal groups that still refer to the NCO, groups with which Cutolo has fully maintained the charisma" underlines the Surveillance Court of Bologna, in assessing the dangerousness of the boss and the risk of recidivism. Cutolo "despite his age and detention represents a 'symbol' for all those criminal groups who continue to refer to his name".

Unlikely covid infection
In Raffaele Cutolo's case "the risk of contagion from Covid-19 does not seem likely to occur". The order stresses that no inmate tested positive for covid in the Parma prison, and that the information acquired by the public health department of the Parma ASL indicates that "the evolution of the epidemic over time and space, based on regional, is part of the downward curve ".
