Soccer: Maradona dies
Last minute. Football commotion: "I've lost a great friend"
Long before the cardiorespiratory arrest that took away the last heartbeat and sigh of
Diego Armando Maradona
, the soccer star had other health problems.
Colic, hypertension, bypass surgeries, drug addiction problems, overweight ... Excesses and addictions were the origin of them.
Maradona had overcome his addiction to hard drugs years ago.
But he continued to consume alcohol, medicated with tranquilizers and anxiolytics.
Three weeks ago, he entered an emergency clinic in the city of La Plata, where he was operated on for a
hematoma on the brain
.
His admission was for other reasons.
According to his lawyer, Matías Morla, he was experiencing
depression
when the bruise was detected.
The hospitalization was then attributed to a "withdrawal condition."
After his admission to La Plata, in which he was operated without complications, he exhibited a recovery that considered a new chapter in his clinical history to be settled.
In fact, the recovery of the 'Ten' had amazed the doctors after that last scare with his delicate health.
Maradona turned 60 on October 30 on a day that more than a party sowed concern in the Albiceleste country, seeing his idol very deteriorated.
And it is that 'Diego' could hardly walk alone in the tribute that the Gymnastics and Fencing coach received on the grass, a brief act that quickly returned him to his home.
The
isolation due to the
coronavirus
pandemic
had also been generating great
discouragement
, without directing his team, without news of Maradona for months more than on social networks.
Diego's other health scares
In 2000, Maradona was admitted to La Barra Polyclinic in Punta del Este (Uruguay) with a critical condition, related to
cocaine use
.
After saving death for the first time, the '10' settled in
Cuba to rehabilitate from addictions
.
In 2004, at the age of 43, Diego was hospitalized again, this time in the Argentine capital, for a
hypertensive crisis
that kept the country in suspense for two weeks, and a year later he was treated for problems related to being overweight, arriving to reach 120 kilos.
Despite
bypass surgery
, in 2007 he was admitted again with a deteriorated physique due to poor diet.
Then, in 2012, he had to undergo surgery in the United Arab Emirates for
kidney colic
that was removed and in 2015, another gastric surgery.
Last year, the '10' was detected
stomach bleeding
and later a
prosthesis
was placed
on his right knee
.
Already in 2020, the physical picture was added to that depression in times of pandemic and the striking slump visible on his 60th birthday.
