"It was a terrible story, where a woman suffered a lot." Eva Darlan chaired for several years the support committee for Jacqueline Sauvage, who had become in spite of herself a symbol of the fight against domestic violence. Wednesday, a few hours after the announcement of his death, the actress paid tribute to him at the microphone of Europe 1.

"The suffering has been brought to light"

In September 2012, Jacqueline Sauvage killed her violent husband by shooting him three times in the back. Two years later, in 2014, she was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment by the Loiret Assize Court. Its story had moved and mobilized many French people. "She represented the suffering of others, which was hidden, which was being killed. Suddenly, this suffering was brought to light," says Eva Darlan.

While the Court of Appeal upheld the conviction, Jacqueline Sauvage was pardoned in 2016 by President Hollande. "We managed to get her out of prison, thanks to François Hollande and all the activists who worked for it. But what suffering ... And did the suffering stop for all that? I don't know no, I don't think so. In the end, Jacqueline had few years of serenity. "
