Russian Daniil Medvedev, world No.5, qualified for the first time for the Masters 1000 final at Paris-Bercy by beating Canadian Milos Raonic (17th) in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7 / 4) Saturday.
This is the first final of the season, certainly largely turned upside down by the Covid-2019 pandemic and cut off by more than five months of competition, for Medvedev (24).
There he will seek a third Masters 1000 trophy, after those won in Cincinnati and Shanghai in 2019.
The second semi-final opposes Rafael Nadal (N.2) to Alexander Zverev (N.7).
During a set and a half, Raonic, who had saved two match points to climb into the last four at the expense of young French Ugo Humbert the day before, did not get a break point against Medvedev.
And when he was not carried by his service and the exchange began, it was overall his Russian opponent who took the advantage.

Raonic, however, had three chances to widen the gap 5 games to 3 in the second set.
But Medvedev held on, and it was he who managed to break to lead 6 games to 5 and serve for the match.
The Canadian pushed him to play a decisive game, finally breaking on his seventh opportunity, but the Russian was not surprised a second time and won after just over an hour and a half of Game.
Against Nadal or Zverev, Medvedev will play his fourth Masters 1000 final, the fourteenth of his career overall.
He will try to register an eighth tournament on his record.
